Biomes
Terrestrial
The major terrestrial biome of Channel Islands National Park is desert. The islands do not receive more than 9 inches of rain per year. The temperature ranges from 77 - 100 degrees fahrenheit. The park thrives with succulent plants and sparse grasses. Generally, desert biomes are home to various snakes, lizards, birds, and insects. The hot and dry climate has a great affect on the organisms that live within the national park. In fact, it impacts their distribution and lifestyle. Plants and animals have to conserve water, due to the high temperatures and little precipitation. The distribution of the organisms and their living resources are driven on a large scale. The spectrum is increased due to the organisms inhabiting islands surrounded by the ocean, which conditions affect the land as well. They animals and plants live in random distribution, so that each may live off their needed resources that are found in areas independent of one another.

Aquatic
Considering the national park is off the Californian coast, it is located in the Pacific Ocean. The aquatic biome of the park is an ocean (saltwater) zone. In the ocean zone, the water temperature ranges. Common plants include kelp, coral, and seaweed. The ocean zone has one of the most diverse biomes when it comes to animals. Seastars, fish, sea lions, whales, sharks, dolphins, squid, anemone, eels, and several other sea animals call the ocean zone biome their home. Due to the climate, the animals adapt by forming symbiotic relationships with one another, such as mutualism. They all work in harmony to provide food and energy to the individuals in the ecosystem. The species within the national parks live in clumping distribution since each population can only live within certain conditions and around specific resources in the water.
